Connect your website
Connect any other website
Add your FactHound code to your website’s header code, whoever built the site. You can send this page to your web person.
Before you start
- Your website is added in FactHound, and Other is chosen under Where is your website built? on the Website setup page.
- You can edit your website’s page template, or someone who looks after your website can.
Why you paste code
AI tools such as ChatGPT read your website’s code, not just the words on the page. FactHound gives you a short block of code with your approved business facts. When it is in your site’s header code, AI tools can read those facts directly. The code also proves to FactHound that the website is yours.
The code must be in the page itself, as your website sends it. Tools that add code later with JavaScript, such as a tag manager, don’t work. AI tools don’t run JavaScript, so they never see that code.
You paste code twice. First a single line, which proves the website is yours. Then, once your business details are published, the full code.
Copy your code from FactHound
- Sign in to FactHound and open Website setup.
- In the Install code card, select the copy button next to the code.
Paste it into your header code
- Open the template or setting that controls the header code of every page. Many website builders call it “header code”, “head code” or “custom code”.
- Paste the code there, so it is on every page, including your homepage.
- Save the change and publish it.
Check it in FactHound
- Go back to Website setup in FactHound.
- Select Check for the install code.
When it works, you see “Install code found. Your site is connected.” If you see “We couldn’t find the install code on your homepage”, read “We couldn’t find the install code”: fixes.
Replace the line with the full code
Once your business details are published, the Install code card shows the full code. If your business details aren’t published yet, the Publication card on the same page lists what is left to do.
- Copy the full code with the copy button.
- Go back to where you pasted the line.
- Delete the old line, paste the full code in its place, and publish the change.
When your facts change
The code is a snapshot of your business details. It doesn’t update by itself. When you change your business details or facts, copy the new code from the Install code card, paste it over the old code and publish again. FactHound shows Update your pasted code when the code on your website is out of date.
Optional: add llms.txt
llms.txt is a plain text file that some AI tools look for. It’s an extra. The code you pasted already works without it.
Only do this if your website lets you upload a file to your domain root:
- On the Website setup page, open Advanced and select Download llms.txt. The button appears once your business details are published.
- Upload the file so it opens at your address followed by /llms.txt, for example yourbusiness.com/llms.txt.
- Download it and upload it again after your business details or facts change.
